Tim Burton's legendary “Batman” (1989) and “Batman Returns” (1992) receive premium treatment and only return to cinemas at the locations of Dolby on August 25th.
The remastered versions play in the Dolby cinema in the AMC theaters in the USA. This is the first time that both films are presented in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
The Burton films with Michael Keaton as Caped Crusader showed memorable villains like Joker Nicholson's Joker, Danny Devitos Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer's catwoman. Both films are attributed to establish the darker, more serious tone that would define the modern superhero cinema.
The improved presentation promises to present Burton's Gotische Vision of Gotham City with unprecedented clarity. Dolby Vision will deliver deeper black, sharper contrasts and more lively colors, while Dolby Atmos will create a multi -dimensional sound experience that envelops the audience from the engines of Batwing to Danny Elfman's famous score.
“I hadn't seen these films since I made them, and she looked at her with this clarity, beauty, color and sounded really new and exciting,” said Burton. “Dolby Atmos and Vision brought everything to life in a fresh way.”
The demonstrations are of particular importance for Dolby's legacy in the cinema. “Batman Returns” wrote the story in 1992 as the first feature film presented in Dolby Digital, the revolutionary audio technology, which became synonymous for surround sound in cinemas.
“” Batman “and” Batman Returns “remain pioneering films in the history of the superhero genre,” said Michelle Maddalena, VP of global content and industry relationships at Dolby. “The new presentation of these films in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos honors Tim Burton's brave creativity and shows how far the audio and image technology has developed.”
Jeff Goldstein, President of Global Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures, Added: “Tim Burton's Acclaimed 'Batman' Films Deliver a Dark, Iconic Vision of Gotham That Continues to Influence the Modern Super Hero Genre Today.
