Maynard James Keenan has never been one who follows trends – and that also includes how his audience experiences live music. As a front man of the tool, a perfect circle and Puscifer, he forced a strict no-filing policy for a long time.
In an interview about Clownvis Presley's serious clown -off podcast, Keenan put his philosophy behind the guideline: “It is annoying and distracted and what you get on your phone is shit. It is not a good presentation.”
Instead of promoting endless documentation, Keenan wants the audience to be present. “We only force the problem of dealing with each other – seeing the show – and only being present. Take a break of it. It's only three hours.” The fans are only allowed to film one song, the last number and give them “a souvenir that shines that they will never see,” he said. The comment reflects a practice that Keenan has implemented in his live shows for years. In the case of tool services, even official live streams are limited to wide -angle recordings in order to maintain the atmosphere. Fans who violate the guideline can be removed from the venue – or at least a public excuse from Keenan itself.
Next week, Keenan Puscifer's new album with two intimate concerts in Los Angeles will have been going on. In the meantime, his other band A Perfect Circle also works for working on a new music.
