Roku starts Howdy, a monthly streaming service of USD 2.99

Roku starts an ad-free, subscription streaming service.

The Service named Howdy offers a lower price than most advertising streaming services for $ 2.99 per month and starts with a library with almost 10,000 hours of entertainment by partners such as Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery and Filmrise as well as selected Roku-original titles. Include the first titles in the library Mad Max: Fury Road, the blind side, weeds And Children in the hallamong other things.

Howdy is scheduled to start in the USA on Tuesday. This is followed by the company's Roku channel, which contains ads for a large content library and Roku Originals and, according to Nielsen Gauge, was the most popular fast service in June. The start of the platform also follows Roku by taking over the paid streaming service Frndly TV in May. Roku has a large potential range for these services after making 90 million households at the beginning of this year.

“Howdy is ad-free with a cup of coffee and for the addition and not with the competition with premium services,” said Anthony Wood, founder and CEO from Roku. “We meet a real need for consumers who relax with their favorite films and show them continuously. Howdy is a natural step for us at Roku and expands our mission to make better television for everyone by being affordable, accessible and built for the way people watch today.”

“We are pleased to continue our long -term cooperation with Roku about innovative opportunities for the connection with the audience,” said Jim Packer, President of Worldwide Television Distribution, Lionsgate. “With over 125 million people a day, Roku is the perfect partner to start a better accessible addition to the higher-priced SVODS. This service can quickly scale and offer us a new way to monetize our content, and we are proud to be part of this new streaming experience.”
