Streaming of films 'no priority' at Paramount-Skydance

The management team at Skydance's Paramount is no interest in playing the original streaming film game and doubled the importance of robust theater publications.

The new CEO of Paramount, David Ellison, gathered on Wednesday with top lieutenants in a press gegle in Los Angeles, where the president of the company just acquired, Jeff Shell, asked questions about theater windows (the time that runs a new film in cinemas before changing video-on and streaming services to be paid).

During his earlier term as CEO of NBCuniversal, Shell was the aggressive advocate of the pioneering deal that universal pictures took with theater chains such as AMC and Cinemark in 2020. The mold pack made it possible to relocate his films after only 17 days from the cinemas to PVOD too, and to be shorter than the 90-day exclusively window of the industry standards, in which theater owners hope to pack seats and concedes before the consumer leaves the house for the house to watch a new film at home.

diversity Shell asked if he was aiming for a similar arrangement for Paramount pictures and global cinema owners.

“Do I think you can maximize the value in Windows? Absolutely, and we will overlook our windows [the board]”, Said Shell and noticed that this week he had spoken to Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theater.” I don't think every film is created equally. Different films deserve different windows. The theater is critical and must be part of the equation, but we will be much more diligent when looking at the value. ”

Ellison went even further and said that the “debate was over” about whether directly on the streaming films had as much influence and value as those who were supported by long and lively marketing campaigns that are supposed to bring consumers to the cinemas.

Cindy Holland, the new streaming manager of Paramount, said it best and bluntly: “Streaming films have no priority for me.”
