Disney appears in the footsteps of Netflix and others, will soon no longer report on the number of subscribers for his services of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.
Disney said that subscribers or average income per unit (ARPU) for the trio of streamers would no longer be paid – and explains that these metrics are “less sensible for the evaluation of our companies' performance”. The company will hire the message from Subs and Arpu for Disney+ and Hulu with the first quarter of its fiscal year 2026 (in the last three months of the 2025 calendar year) and will no longer report the metrics for ESPN+ from September 2025.
“We focus on growing our business in a sustainable way and reconciling our financial reporting with our work,” the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston wrote in quarterly winning comments that were published on Wednesday. “Since we started reporting the number of paid subscribers and the ARPU, our DTC strategy and the operating environment have developed further. In view of this development, we are planning to implement changes to our entertainment and sport financial information.”
The managers said: “Although we will no longer disclose subscribers and arpu, we will provide information about the profitability of the entertainment directly to consumers.”
“We believe that our future reporting will better match changes in the media landscape, the unique nature of our integrated assets, how we operate our companies and how management evaluates the progress and success of our strategic initiatives,” wrote the executives.
Disney's streaming turnover rose by 6% for the quarter in June 2025 and the segment made a profit of $ 346 million.
At the end of June, Disney's subscribers from Disney+ and Hulu reached 183 million, which increased an increase of 2.6 million compared to the last January March quarter. Core Disney+ subscribers stood on 128 million and rose by 1.8 million in succession. (Disney said in May 2025 in June 2025 a “modest increase” in Disney+ Subs.) Hulu subscribers reached 55.5 million, a net profit of 800,000.
For the period from July to September 2025, Disney Total Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions forecast for more than 10 million, which is mainly due to the company's extended charter deal. The company expects a “modest increase” at Disney +Plern for the current quarter.
